Passengers were compelled to evacuate a Delta Airlines aircraft after one of its engines ignited while stationed on the tarmac at Orlando International Airport in Florida.
Footage shared on social media depicts smoke and flames emanating from the right engine, with passengers descending from the plane using inflatable emergency slides.
Delta flight 1213 was preparing to leave Orlando, known for being the location of Disneyworld, en route to Atlanta, carrying over 200 individuals. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.
“Passengers were evacuated. The Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting team responded swiftly,” the airport communicated in a social media update.
According to Delta’s statement to CBS News, the Airbus A330 was transporting 200 passengers, along with 10 flight attendants and two pilots.
The airline indicated that the cabin crew initiated an evacuation when flames were detected in one of the aircraft’s two primary engines.
Video footage seemingly captured from the terminal shows passengers waiting on the tarmac, with emergency vehicles stationed beside the plane.
“We value our customers’ understanding and apologize for the situation,” Delta remarked.
“Safety is our top priority, and Delta teams are committed to ensuring our customers reach their final destinations as quickly as possible.”
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it will conduct an investigation into the incident.
