France is continuing to provide military intelligence to Ukraine following the announcement from Washington regarding the suspension of information sharing with Kyiv, as stated by French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the United States declared a halt to its intelligence sharing with Ukraine, thereby interrupting the flow of crucial information that has been instrumental for the war-affected nation in targeting Russian forces. However, officials from the Trump administration have indicated that ongoing positive discussions between Washington and Kyiv may lead to a brief suspension period.
American intelligence plays a critical role in enabling Ukraine to monitor Russian troop movements and identify targets. In an interview with France Inter radio on Thursday, Lecornu confirmed that France will maintain its intelligence support. “Our intelligence is sovereign,” he remarked, emphasizing that France possesses intelligence that it is willing to share with Ukraine.
Lecornu further noted that in response to the US decision to suspend all military aid to Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron has instructed him to expedite various French aid initiatives to compensate for the reduction in American support. He also mentioned that, following the US’s decision, shipments of aid destined for Ukraine from Poland had been halted. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in the resilience of the Ukrainians, who have adapted to combat over the past three years and have developed effective stockpiling strategies.
