Marco Rubio US secretary of states reaffirmed President Donald Trump’s position, insisting that Hamas must release all hostages without delay. “The President was unequivocal – Hamas MUST release ALL hostages NOW!” Rubio stated in a post on X from the White House. His comments followed Israel’s confirmation of the return of three hostages released by Hamas as part of a negotiated agreement.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that the three hostages—Ohad Ben Ami, Eli Sharabi, and Or Levy—had been transferred to the Red Cross, which then escorted them to Israeli territory. Upon their arrival, IDF and Shin Bet personnel received the men, who were set to undergo initial medical assessments. The individuals, previously held in Gaza, appeared noticeably weakened, raising concerns among their families regarding their health.
Hamas organized a public event prior to the release of hostages, compelling them to take part in a propaganda showcase, as reported by The Times of Israel. During this event, a masked member of Hamas delivered a speech while the three hostages were displayed on stage, each holding certificates. Behind them, banners in Arabic, Hebrew, and English proclaimed: “We’re the flood, the war’s next day,” a message seemingly aimed at US President Donald Trump in light of his recent assertion that the US would “take over” Gaza.
The emotional impact on the families was palpable as they responded to the return of their loved ones. Michal Cohen, the mother of Ohad Ben Ami, voiced her sorrow upon seeing her son appear frail and aged beyond his years. Tal Levy, the brother of Or Levy, also remarked on his brother’s emaciated condition but emphasized the necessity of ongoing efforts to secure the release of all hostages. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum echoed this sentiment, stating that the distressing images of the released individuals serve as undeniable evidence of the urgent need to ensure the freedom of those who remain captive.
Israel has agreed to release 183 Palestinian security prisoners from Keziot Prison in the Negev and Ofer Prison in the West Bank as part of the agreement. This group comprises 18 individuals who are currently serving life sentences, with seven of them scheduled for deportation. Among the 183 detainees, 111 were apprehended in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict, while the other 72 originate from the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
