India-Pakistan War: Indian Missiles Strike Civilian-Populated Areas in Pakistan, Tensions Soar
07 May 2025 — Islamabad / New Delhi:
Fresh tensions erupted between India and Pakistan as reports emerged early this morning of a military confrontation along the Line of Control (LoC), Bahawalpur and Mureedkay adjacent to Lahore. Pakistani defense officials have accused Indian forces of initiating an unprovoked attack, while the Indian side has not confirmed that they have locked 9 targets in Pakistan in response to Pahalgam terrorist attack which Pakistan has already disowned the responsibility.
According to initial reports, Pakistani military spokespersons stated that they responded “with full force,” claiming to have successfully countered the Indian offensive. “The Pakistan Army gave a strong and effective response, causing significant damage to enemy positions,” said a statement released by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Local residents in the border regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir reported sounds of heavy artillery fire and aerial activity overnight. There have been unconfirmed reports of casualties, but official figures have not been released by either side.
The Indian Ministry of Defence has yet to issue a detailed statement, but local Indian media have reported heightened military presence along the LoC and increased air patrols.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have flared multiple times in the past, with both countries accusing each other of ceasefire violations and cross-border attacks. The current incident is likely to draw international attention and calls for restraint from global powers.
Both countries have previously committed to maintaining peace along the border under a ceasefire agreement signed in 2003, which was reaffirmed in early 2021. However, the fragile peace has frequently been tested by flare-ups and accusations of border aggression.
As the situation develops, international observers are urging both sides to engage in dialogue and prevent further escalation.
This is a developing story. More updates will follow as confirmed information becomes available.
