A small medical transport aircraft tragically crashed into multiple buildings in northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening, resulting in the deaths of all six individuals aboard and New trade penalties that President Donald Trump intends to implement on Saturday against Canada, Mexico, and China signify a bold initial action towards America’s three primary trading partners. However, this approach carries the potential for increased inflation and could disrupt the global economy.
In Trump’s perspective, the imposition of 25 percent tariffs on the two North American allies, along with a 10 percent tax on imports from the United States’ foremost economic competitor, serves as a means for the United States to leverage its financial power to influence global dynamics.
“You see the power of the tariff,” Trump remarked to reporters on Friday. “Nobody can compete with us because we have by far the biggest piggy bank.”
injuring several people on the ground. The aircraft was engaged in a medical transport mission, carrying a pediatric patient along with her mother and four crew members.
According to flight logs, the plane was airborne for merely one minute before the incident occurred, as stated by Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker. Footage of the event circulating online depicts the aircraft descending rapidly and igniting a significant fireball. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico confirmed that all six individuals on board were Mexican nationals, and the flight was en route to Springfield, Missouri. Mayor Parker noted that numerous individuals on the ground—located in parking lots, on streets, in vehicles, and within nearby homes—sustained injuries, although the total number of injured has not yet been disclosed.
A representative from Temple University Hospital-Jeanes in Philadelphia reported that six individuals injured on the ground were treated, with three having been released; the condition of the remaining three individuals is still unknown.
The aircraft departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport at approximately 18:07 local time and subsequently crashed less than four miles (6.4 km) away. The initial emergency calls were made around 18:12, according to the report.
In a statement, Jared Solomon, a state representative for Northeast Philadelphia, expressed, “In a time of profound tragedy, I was inspired to witness hundreds of our first responders sprinting towards danger to ensure the safety of our neighborhood.” Eyewitnesses recounted that shrapnel from the incident damaged vehicles and sent burning debris into the streets. Images from the scene depict mangled, burning cars. The crash occurred just a few blocks from the Roosevelt Mall, a three-story shopping center located in a densely populated area of Philadelphia, the fifth largest city in the United States. The vicinity is characterized by terraced housing and various shops.
Fire officials reported that several homes ignited in the vicinity of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. One individual who spoke with CBS recounted driving in the area when he heard a whirring noise followed by a loud explosion. “Everyone just started screaming,” he remarked.
Another witness informed local media that the explosion “lit up the whole sky.” “I just saw a plane basically hit the building and it exploded. The sky lit up, and I pulled over; it was just really bad around here,” the witness said, likening the crash to the sensation of an earthquake.
Ryan Tian, 23, shared with The Philadelphia Inquirer that he was out for dinner when he observed a “massive fireball” that turned the sky orange. “I thought we were getting attacked by something,” he stated.
