Pakistan DG ISPR Confirms Downing of 5 Indian Jets and a Drone in Retaliation to Missile Attack
7 May 2025 — Islamabad / New Delhi:
Amid rising tensions in South Asia, Pakistan’s military has announced a major retaliatory action, claiming it has shot down five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale jets and two other aircraft, along with an Indian surveillance drone. The strikes come in response to what Pakistan describes as an unprovoked missile attack by India on civilian areas.
Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), confirmed the operation in an official statement this morning. “In a calibrated and precise response to India’s missile aggression, Pakistan Air Force successfully neutralized five Indian aircraft violating our airspace, including three Rafale jets, two multirole fighters, and a high-altitude surveillance drone,” he said.
The military spokesperson DG ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s response was carried out in self-defense and in accordance with its right to protect national sovereignty and civilian life. “We do not seek war, but we will not tolerate aggression,” he added.
Strikes Near the Line of Control
The confrontation reportedly occurred near the Line of Control (LoC), with witnesses in border regions reporting intense aerial combat, sonic booms, and falling debris. Pakistani forces also claimed to have tracked and intercepted the Indian drone which was allegedly conducting surveillance deep inside Pakistani territory.
India Yet to Respond
The Indian government has confirmed the loss of three aircrafts, though local Indian media have reported “aerial engagement” with Pakistan and heightened military activity in northern sectors.
This follows days of escalating military moves, beginning with India’s alleged missile strike on Pakistan’s Neelum–Jhelum Hydropower Project—a civilian site Islamabad said was a red line.
International Concerns Grow
The United Nations, United States, and China have expressed growing concern over the rapidly deteriorating situation. Several diplomatic channels are reportedly being activated to urge restraint on both sides and prevent the conflict from expanding further.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be posted as more information becomes available.
