Russia is cultivating a “privileged strategic partnership” with India, as stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday.
During an event, Lavrov highlighted that Russia is actively strengthening its relationships with nations including China, India, Iran, North Korea, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), according to the state-run TASS news agency.
“We focus on enhancing connections with a majority of countries worldwide,” he remarked at a meeting of the board of trustees for the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.
He noted that the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation with the People’s Republic of China have reached an unparalleled level of mutual trust, while a particularly privileged strategic partnership is being developed with India. Lavrov also mentioned that significant advancements have been made in fostering and deepening friendly relations with countries such as Iran and North Korea.
Moscow places significant importance on enhancing cooperation across all sectors with its allies and partners within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as through the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union, as stated by Lavrov.
In a congratulatory message to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s 76th Republic Day in January, President Putin highlighted that the relationship between Russia and India is founded on a “special and privileged strategic partnership.”
This year, President Putin is anticipated to visit India as part of the established framework for reciprocal annual meetings between the leaders of the two countries.
Putin and Modi maintain consistent communication, engaging in telephone discussions approximately every few months. They also meet in person, especially during international events.
Last July, Prime Minister Modi undertook a two-day visit to Moscow to participate in the 22nd Russia-India summit. In October, he traveled to Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS summit.
