For a second time during the week, Turkish authorities have issued a US consulate-worker an arrest warrant on ambiguous charges.
Last week, a member was faced with detention in Istanbul that triggered the US diplomatic visa row, sparking US and Turkey to stop more visa services.
The staff member alleged lastly was accused of having links to some cleric who was blamed for failure of Turkish coup of 2016. However, the reason behind recent arrest has not been provided. The US visa row is affecting Turkey’s currency as well as stocks.
Moreover, Turkey has given Washington some time to review the decision of suspension of visa services for all non-immigrants, taken on Sunday in reaction to last arrest warrant.
Turkish Foreign Ministry said to the media that the suspension decision has caused ‘unnecessary tension.’ Turkey, in response, has suspended ‘all visa services.’
Numerous Turkey’s news networks reported that on 9 th Oct,2017 an arrest warrant has been issued for another consulate worker.
They reported that the suspect worker was being sought still and his wife and children were being interrogated.
The consulate worker, Metin Topuz, arrested last week was blamed for espionage and having links to cleric, who is US-based, Fethullah Gulen.
Furthermore, Ankara has been insisting Washington for months to return Mr. Gulen for his alleged part in the failed coup in July, 2016.
The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Mr. Gulen for prompting unrest in Turkish coup in 2016. The cleric, however, denies the charges.
The aftereffects of failed coup attempt by military led to arrest of 40,000 people and suspension or being sacked of 120,000 people.
